If you don’t brand yourself, then someone else will!

“Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room” – Jeff Bezos, Founder, Amazon

True that. And that's why, taking charge of your brand and intentionally communicating who you really are and what you want to hear when you are outside that room, becomes all important!

But that's not quite enough these days! Everyone is screaming out their What’s and How’s. To cut the clutter, you need to talk about your Why’s! Why do you matter? Why are you in a specific industry? Why should anyone care about you? Why should you be chosen over so many others? As you share the 'Why's' about yourself, you are allowing your audience a chance to feel like they 'know' you, can 'trust' you and maybe even 'like' you.

In a world full of competition, it is hard to differentiate and be distinct. Again, here’s when your Personal Brand starts to kick in. A compelling brand sets you apart, keeps you memorable and shows you as authentic. Your personal brand is simply how your audience views you and increases your chances when it is time to be valued, hired or chosen. Once people recognise who you are, know what you stand for and associate you with a specific area of expertise, they seek you.

Personal Branding is inescapable and today it is deemed as a leadership imperative. So take charge of Brand YOU and be seen, be heard and be sought! And in case you decide not to, then just be sure that someone else will brand you. And that’s not always good news!
